Pep Guardiola’s talisman Roberto Baggio was present again during the Champions League final. The City manager could not have been happier. The Italian football great was present for the third time at a CL final of Guardiola and the Spaniard also won three times.
Guardiola sees Baggio as his talisman
Baggio was a guest at the Champions League final against Internazionale and saw Manchester City grab the overall victory. That was already the third time that Baggio brought Guardiola luck. Earlier he was also present at the finals that Guardiola played with Barcelona in Rome in 2009 and in London in 2011. “I am very happy that Baggio was here with Gianni Infantino,” Guardiola said at a press conference.
That seems to bring luck to the Spanish coach. “It was great that Roberto was there in Rome and Wembley when we won the Champions League. So I hope he will join me next time,” Guardiola said with a wink. Baggio and Guardiola played together for another year at Brescia in the 2001/02 season.
Guardiola does not understand that his players now have to play even more games
Pep Guardiola finds it incomprehensible that his players still have to play international matches. The season should actually be over a long time ago, he thinks.
Guardiola has long complained that too much is being asked of the players. Manchester City became champions of England three weeks ago, but still had to play two important games. And it doesn’t stop there, because the Nations League is just around the corner. Incomprehensible, says Guardiola.
“I don’t have the energy to think about next season at the moment, impossible,” Guardiola told BT Sport. “We all need a break because the season is too long. Most players now go to the national team to play games… UEFA and FIFA, come on.”
“We won the Premier League three weeks ago, are coming back for these two games (FA Cup and Champions League) And now have to play even more? They have two to three weeks off and then have to start again. We have to push them more and more, it’s too much. Next season we will start again from zero,” said the Spaniard.
