Paris Saint-Germain makes Bayern legend Philipp Lahm sad. The former Germany international and Bayern icon sees how all Qatari investments pay off on the political scene. But the stars on the field fade in Parc des Princes.
Bayern icon takes Mbappé as an example in a hard swipe at Paris Saint-Germain
The double confrontation in the Champions League with Bayern Munich was proof for Philipp Lahm that Paris Saint-Germain, despite the colossal Qatari investments in the sporting field, misses the target.
“Kylian Mbappé is a story in itself,” Philipp Lahm wrote in Die Zeit. “There is no doubt about his qualities and he has won enough prizes. But his talent is not fully exploited. In Munich he waited until he got the ball in his feet. I have no idea how Mbappé’s career can flourish in Paris.”
“The difference with Mbappé in the French national team is obvious,” says Philipp Lahm.
Paris Saint-Germain is formed by individuals rather than a team that brings out the qualities present. It’s loose sand. The difference with Mbappé in the French national team is obvious, says Philipp Lahm.
He adds, “In the national team, everyone works for success under the leadership of Didier Deschamps and therefore also for Mbappé, because they know that his dynamics, his shot and his changes of pace are unique selling points in the world of football.”
“The French attacker shows it at Les Bleus. Mbappé is as committed to France as Lionel Messi is to Argentina, where coach Lionel Scaloni cherishes Messi’s genius. One for all, all for one,” said Philipp Lahm. “In Munich, Messi showed his special class at times. But its qualities are used without idea, without purpose and without direction. Individuals at Paris Saint-Germain just don’t know how to get a goal together and how to contribute to it. Messi was helpless and desperate.”
Philipp Lahm points out that you cannot win the hearts of football fans by buying stars. He concludes, “Large shifts, with which people can identify, are the result of a process. This can only succeed with cooperation, solidarity and community spirit. Those are values of Europe, and not those of Paris Saint-Germain. That’s why Paris Saint-Germain remains a lackluster experience.”
