Manchester United have decided not to appeal Casemiro’s red card. That means that the Brazilian’s participation in the League Cup final against Newcastle United is not in danger.
Casemiro let himself go during the home game with Crystal Palace on Saturday and grabbed opponent Will Hughes by the throat. After an intervention by the VAR, referee Andre Marinner drew a red card for the Brazilian veteran. United initially thought of appealing but have decided against it. “I maintain that I do not agree with the decision of Casemiro’s red card, but I think we would have little chance,” said Erik ten Hag in the run-up to the home game with Leeds United.
Because United did not appeal, Casemiro is obviously not there against The Whites . The thirty-year-old midfielder also misses the away game with Leeds and the home game against Leicester City. If United had appealed, there was a chance that Casemiro would receive an extra match suspension. As a result, the former Real Madrid player would have to miss the League Cup final against Newcastle United. United didn’t want to let it get that far.
Erik ten Hag continues defending Wout Weghorst
In the run-up to the duel with Leeds United, Erik ten Hag has again stepped into the breach for Wout Weghorst.
Weghorst has so far been accurate for United once since he came over on a rental basis from Besiktas, but Ten Hag mainly looks at the game of the long striker. “He is the one who lets players around him play better,” Ten Hag said at the press conference in the run-up to the clash with low-flyer Leeds.
“As a team we have to anticipate his movements better, because his movements are good, he was often close,” continues Ten Hag. “He had many good actions and already many good contributions to our results.”
Ten Hag is not afraid that his fellow countryman will not find it at Old Trafford. “He will score, but in the meantime he does the other things, and he does it well. It’s not about individual scoring, it’s about team scoring and the team has to win. He is doing very well at the moment in different aspects of football.’
