Manchester United have said goodbye to David de Gea after twelve seasons. As a result Erik ten Hag must definitely look for a new goalkeeper for Manchester United. David de Gea announced via his social media channels.
De Gea and Manchester United split after twelve years
De Gea came over from Atlético Madrid for 25 million euros in the summer of 2011, with which he had won the Europa League and European Super Cup. The then twenty-year-old goalkeeper immediately became a basic player under Sir Alex Ferguson and won the Premier League with the English superpower in 2013, the FA Cup in 2016 and the Europa League a year later. After Ferguson’s departure, he also served under his successors David Moyes, Ryan Giggs, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick and last season Ten Hag.
De Gea’s contract with Manchester United expired last week, but both parties had been negotiating a longer stay for several months. However, an agreement was not reached, so that both parties announced on Saturday afternoon that they were separating after twelve years.
As a result, Ten Hag has to look for a new goalkeeper. Manchester United seems to be going full for Andre Onana, who previously worked with Ten Hag at Ajax. The 27-year-old goalkeeper is under contract with Internazionale until mid-2027, with whom he reached the Champions League final last season. There is talk of a transfer fee of at least 50 million euros.
Casemiro explains why he exchanged Real Madrid for Manchester United
While Luka Modric and Toni Kroos will probably end their careers at Real Madrid, Casemiro chose to leave for Manchester United last year. That was a surprising transfer, but for the midfielder it felt like the right time to switch clubs.
Casemiro (31) was the lock on the door at Real for years and the Spanish club certainly did not want to get rid of him. When Manchester United reported, however, the Brazilian himself asked for a transfer.
“I had the chance to leave at my peak, at an age when I still had enough willpower,” Casemiro explains his transfer to the Brazilian Placar. “If I had waited another two or three years, I would not have exchanged Real for another top club.”
“I would then no longer have the ambition to go to another competition,” Casemiro thought. And that seemed a shame to him, because the midfielder always wanted to play in the Premier League again. He added, “And it’s just as I expected it to be. There is no easy game here. Even if the front runner plays against the last one you don’t know who will win. If you only play at ninety percent, you lose.”
Casemiro played 51 games in his first season with United. Won the League Cup and qualified for the Champions League with his team. In the service of Real, five-time Champions League winner Casemiro previously played 336 games.
