Manuel Neuer returns to Bayern Munich. The goalkeeper is working on his return, but wants to take his time.
Bayern Munich shares happy news about unlucky Neuer
Neuer was seriously injured on a skiing holiday after the World Cup in Qatar and was busy with a broken leg for no less than five months. This week he took his first steps on the training field. “I’m happy,” he says through the Bayern channels. “We haven’t set a date for a return yet, but I’m doing everything I can to return as strong as possible. I hope my recovery is going as well as possible.”
After a very disappointing World Cup, in which Germany did not survive the group stage, Neuer took a ski holiday. That’s where it went wrong. Bayern switched quickly after his injury by signing Yann Sommer. The 34-year-old goalkeeper from Morges, Switzerland, still has a contract in Munich until 2025. It is expected that Neuer will regain his place under the crossbar.
From the sidelines, Neuer sees that the German title fight with three games to go is anything but over. Bayern leads with 65 points, but Borussia Dortmund has only one point less.
Manchester United has Verbruggen in its sights
We shift our focus to another veteran goalkeeper De Gea, who is said to depart United. Manchester United has Bart Verbruggen high on their wish list. According to Manchester United’s well-informed Manchester Evening News, he is seen as a welcome addition as David de Gea’s position at the club is uncertain.
According to the English medium, David de Gea’s position as first goalkeeper at Manchester United is under discussion. His contract expires next summer, but the club has an option for a further year. De Gea has received a lot of criticism this season and so Manchester United is also looking around for other keepers.
Verbruggen made a big impression at Anderlecht this season. The twenty-year-old goalkeeper made his debut for the Belgian club at the age of eighteen and has since become one of the stars. He was also included in the selection of the Dutch national team by national coach Ronald Koeman. Verbruggen is still fixed until the summer of 2025.
Verbruggen would not be the first player with a past in the Netherlands to move to Manchester United. Erik ten Hag previously brought Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martínez, Antony, Christian Eriksen and Wout Weghorst to Manchester.
