Recovering goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has broken his silence. The denounces Bayern Munich’s decision to part ways with goalkeeper coach Toni Tapalovic.
Neuer is still on his way back from his skiing accident. During his rehabilitation, he was very unpleasantly surprised by a decision by Bayern Munich to break with Tapalovic. It hit the World Cup-goer very hard.
“For me it was a blow, while I was already on the ground,” Neuer is very clear about his feelings. “I felt like my heart had been ripped out. It was the cruelest thing I’ve experienced in my career. And I’ve been through a lot.”
Neuer sees “no basis whatsoever” for Tapalovic’s dismissal. “Some things have been said that I don’t agree with. Nothing I’ve heard precludes the possibility of sitting down together and discussing matters,” the German mentioned.
Tapalovic, who is also Neuer’s confidant in addition to goalkeeper coach, was dismissed by Bayern in January due to a ‘difference of opinion’ after eleven years of loyal service.
Julian Nagelsmann’s response
In response Julian Nagelsmann will not be tempted to judge the bomb that Manuel Neuer detonated at Bayern Munich. The door is not closed to the goalkeeper.
Nagelsmann dodged the question about Neuer’s captaincy. He revealed, “I’m not into that. I understand that the question is being asked because of the interview. But now is not the time to answer this question. Manu ‘s goal is to get fit. We will see.”
Before the duel with VfL Wolfsburg, Nagelsmann had shared more thoughts about the much-publicized interview of Neuer, who was furious about the goalkeeping coach’s dismissal. “I wouldn’t have given it from my perspective, especially because the club has to be first. Of course it doesn’t contribute to peace,” he added.
The harsh accusations would be the harbinger of a break, it was suggested in the German media. There is a way back for the Bayern coach. The coach continued, “I had a good conversation with Manuel, privately and well before the interview. I am a person of harmony and my door is not closed, even if I chose a different path myself.”
Nagelsmann does not want to focus too much attention on the Neuer bomb. “We have extremely important weeks ahead of us,” he pointed to the approaching Champions League clash with PSG. “Manu is injured and has to get fit first. I have often said that he is the best goalkeeper in the world, but he has to come back first. The rest is future music.”
