Spain Squad: David De Gea dropped from the national in favour of Brentford’s Raya
Manchester United’s Number 1 David De Gea, has had a much improved season in the Prem this season. However, the Spaniard has been dropped from the Spanish national team ahead of their international friendly fixtures, this week.
Spain’s head coach Luis Enrique was not shy to let the world know that De Gea did not fit his system.
“He has been doing very well for a long time and I really want to see him in the context of the national team,” said Enrique.
“I think he has the profile to be a good goalkeeper for the national team, because of his quality. His ability to manage any game situation with the ball at his feet. And to dominate, which is something our team’s goalkeeper does. Probably it is a surprise for many people, not for us.”
David Raya of Brentford who has been impressive. In his time at London as a sweeper-keeper has replaced the United man.
The Barcelona born shot-stopper has conceded just 18 goals in 15 games for a relegation-threatened side.
Another rather surprising decision from the coach was to leave out Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets, from the squad. However, Enrique did explain that it was an attempt to give the veteran much-needed rest.
