Erling Haaland is climbing up the Champions League all-time top goalscorer list rapidly. With the goal on Tuesday night against Bayern Munich Haaland put him alongside Bayern club icon Gerd Müller on the Champions League all-time top goalscorer list.
Haaland aims arrows at Bayern icon in brutal CL hunt
In seven CL games this season, Haaland scored eleven goals for Manchester City. Last season he made three in three games, the year before ten in eight games, just like in his first Champions League year. In short: unprecedented figures from the Norwegian. With that, he now stands at 34 CL goals and occupies 22nd place on the all-time top scorers list.
A goal against Bayern Munich puts him level with Müller. After that he can hunt Edinson Cavani (35 goals), Ferenc Puskás (36 goals) and Kylian Mbappé (40 goals). Of all players in the top fifty (including European Cup), Haaland played the fewest matches in the Champions League. Partly because of this, he also has the highest goal average of all. Haaland scores an average of 1.31 per game.
The player that follows is Müller. He averaged 0.97 per CL game in his career. So he just didn’t walk one on one. Even leaders Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) and Lionel Messi (129 goals) score relatively significantly less than Haaland with respective goal averages of 0.77 and 0.79.
