Lionel Messi scored his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night. As Mauricio Pochettino’s side defeated Manchester City 2-0 in Champions League football news, Messi scored his first PSG goal yesterday.
PSG pulled forward for the first time in the match after only seven minutes. It was Idrissa Gueye won scored for PSG’s 1-0 lead at home, at Parc des Princes.
When Neymar swiped at the air from the resulting cut-back, Gueye was on hand to control the ball. He neatly sent an arrow-like strike into the top corner. Gueye thus slammed home his second goal in a week.
Soon after, City appeared to be on the verge of equalizing when Kevin De Bruyne floated an exquisite cross. The ball flew right onto the head of Raheem Sterling, and the forward’s header rebounded off the crossbar. Then, Bernardo Silva stabbed the rebound back onto the crossbar when it appeared easier for City to score. However, PSG scrambled the ball away.
PSG nearly doubled their lead shortly before halftime when Mbappe set up Marquinhos from a quick corner routine. But the Brazilian couldn’t extend his leg far enough to poke home.

Manchester City actually dominated possession in the match. They even created a few chances in both the halves, which was more than we can say for PSG.
Gianluigi Donnarumma made a good save at the back post from Ruben Dias’ header before Kevin De Bruyne went close. He almost scored for City after sneaking in behind the PSG defence.
However, fans will remember the evening best for Messi’s piece of brilliance. The Argentine received the ball deep inside his own half before breezing past Aymeric Laporte.
Then, Messi was playing a give-and-go with Mbappe, as the Frenchman laid the ball back into Messi’s path. He curled his effort into the top corner to seal a priceless three points for PSG.
