In Wednesday’s Women’s Super League (WSL) football news, Chelsea’s women won 2-0 over West Ham in a comfortable home victory. Regardless, Chelsea boss Emma Hayes wants more goals from Erin Cuthbert, who assisted the first goal and scored the second.
Cuthbert set up the initial goal in the 51st minute, only to score the follow-up goal herself. She scored late in the second half, at 82 minutes, to give Chelsea’s women a clean 2-0 home victory.
Chelsea Boss Emma Hayes Wants More Goals from Erin Cuthbert
“The number of goals Erin gets is not enough for the chances she gets. That’s her next challenge,” said Hayes, when Erin Cuthbert scored the second goal, after assisting Bethany England on the first.
“She is a brilliant character, a warrior who has everything in her game.”
After Scot Cuthbert’s match-winning display, Hayes added: “She is a brilliant character, a warrior who has everything in her game.”
Hayes said her side “deserved to win the game” and was content with the manner they eventually achieved it.
“I am just happy we scored scrappy goals,” she added.
“I have the team who want to score the most delightful goals, we want to walk the ball into the net. We don’t score enough goals for what we create.
“The reality is we needed that goal from Beth, her response to coming on was great.”
