Christophe Galtier, the newly appointed PSG coach appeared in an interview with L’Équipe recently. The Frenchman admitted that a change of style would be necessary at PSG. He would go on to add (that I) “came to Paris to win everything”.
Have you been assigned a Champions League target?
“No. Not everyone is going to believe me, but it’s the truth. Once you’re at PSG, you always have an obligation to achieve results. I’m very ambitious and, with great humility, I came to Paris to win. There are three national titles, we have to win them. You have to break records, and, with modesty, I’ll be honest: I came to Paris to win everything.”
Why are PSG more likely to win the Champions League with Christophe Galtier in charge than with Laurent Blanc, Thomas Tuchel or Mauricio Pochettino?
“Why not? Do you know who won the first Champions League title for Chelsea? It’s Roberto Di Matteo, who would have bet on him?”
You’re seen as a coach who likes to play in transitions. Will you change?
“It’s a must. When you arrive at PSG, you know, for a large part of the league season, what kind of matches you are going to face. I have to adapt to the characteristics of the team, the environment and what PSG should be like. We’ll have high possession times, we will have to stretch blocks to get in behind.”
How does the new 3-5-2 help with this problem?
“This formation corresponds well with the characteristics of the players, we want to be present and press the opponent very high. From what I have been able to analyse, we have players who are very hard-hitting and very good offensively, to unleash them you have to have the right balance.”
