Czechia U21 2-1 Germany U21: Germany is already in danger of stranding in the group stage at the European Under-21 Championship in Georgia and Romania. After the draw against Israel, the reigning champion went down against the Czech Republic on Sunday. England secured itself in Group C of participation in the quarterfinals.
Painful elimination threatens for Germany at European Under-21 Championship
Germany disappointed at the start of the European Championship with a draw against Israel (1-1) and things did not get any better against the Czech Republic. Although the Germans had a lot of ball possession, the Czechs had many chances. That resulted in the 1-0 in the first half via Vaclav Sejk, an attacker from Jablonec. Germany had to chase, just like against Israel.
On Thursday, Germany scored six minutes after the opening goal, but that did not work against the Czech Republic. The underdog held on for a long time in Batumi, but eventually took the 1-1. Angelo Stiller hit the target for the Germans, who actually didn’t need a point. On the hunt for the 1-2, the team got the lid on the nose. After a corner kick from the Czech Republic, Martin Vitik got the ball at his feet. His bet was touched and ended up in the German goal: 2-1.
For Germany it now looks very bad at the European Championship. With one point from two matches, the team must beat England on Wednesday and hope that the Czech Republic loses to Israel. In any other scenario, the European Championship for Germany will already end in the group stage.
England U21 2-0 Israel U21
England won quite easily against the Czech Republic on Thursday and repeated that trick against Israel on Sunday. It was not really sparkling what the team showed, but with six points from two games, the English talents secured a ticket for the quarterfinals. Former PSV player Noni Madueke was in the starting line-up and saw Anthony Gordon open the score with a striking header.
Madueke went to shore with Gordon after an hour. Shortly after that double substitution, England struck again. As with the 1-0, Morgan Gibbs-White was the principal. Emile Smith-Rowe fired from outside the penalty area to double the margin. Nothing changed in the score after that.
