Norway U21 0-1 France U21: France Under-21 have registered a win in the European Championship for the second time. Norway’s contemporaries put up excellent resistance, but, like Italy, fell against the French.
France Under-21 with one leg in European Championship knockout phase after another victory
France had serious doubts before the tournament. The series of exhibition games leading up to the tournament was difficult to say the least. Germany won, but draws against Belgium, Norway and Spain followed and the shocking 4-0 defeat against England in particular hurt.
With the 2-1 victory over Italy, France had started the European Championship well again. France had a viscous first half against Norway. It took less than an hour for the French to take the lead thanks to a goal by Crystal Palace player Michael Olise.
Amine Adli had broken through on the left flank and pulled the ball in front of striker Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga. The Stade Rennes attacker missed the ball, allowing his teammate to tap in at the far post. With the victory, France leads the group with six points and on Wednesday it can secure the next round against Switzerland in the last group match.
Changing of the guard is now really imminent at PSG
Continuing with French news, Christophe Galtier’s era at Paris Saint-Germain is not long in coming. The French top club is approaching an agreement on a termination of the contract of the 56-year-old trainer. When things are settled with Galtier, the way is clear for successor Luis Enrique.
PSG wants to get rid of Galtier early and has been negotiating for some time about the coach’s departure. According to Le Parisien, an agreement is close and the official message from the club may follow on Wednesday. According to the newspaper, Galtier will receive six million euros as a lump sum payment. The coach’s contract ran for another year.
Luis Enrique is ready to succeed Galtier. The former trainer of Barcelona, among others, left after the World Cup as national coach of Spain and has been waiting for a new adventure ever since. He has a two-year contract ready for him in Paris. According to the French newspaper, Luis Enrique is already in daily contact with the club management about next season’s selection.
