“The club appreciates the sincerity and professionalism displayed during the work done in the recent months by the coach and the members of his staff,” the statement reads.
The former midfielder will be tasked with improving the team, which is now ranked fourteenth overall. The Biancazzurri have 2 victories, 3 draws, and 3 losses after 9 matchdays. To make matters worse, SPAL finished 15th in Italy’s second division the previous campaign.
De Rossi will be starting his career as a coach. The Italian was already a member of Roberto Mancini’s staff when he joined AS Roma, where he spent a significant amount of time. The Serie B is operating normally despite the Azzurri’s failure to make the World Cup, and with this switch De Rossi has assured employment during the competition in Qatar.
De Rossi will run into many other former world champions in Serie B. Two of his teammates with whom he won the gold medal in 2006 in Germany are also the competition’s trainers. At Frosinone, Fabio Grosso is the team’s representative; Benevento just appointed Fabio Cannavaro as captain. Gianluigi Buffon, who played goal for that side, is still playing goal for Parma sixteen years later.
To add to the list, a 2010 world champion who also plays in Serie B is Cesc Fàbregas of Como. On November 12, the world champions will square off for the first time. On that day, De Rossi will welcome Benevento, a team that Cannavaro is currently in charge of.
