After Manchester United earned a point owing to Cristiano Ronaldo, Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon re-edited the famous football axiom. Following CR7’s brace and his interview (football news), De Roon is frustrated that Atalanta drew 2-2 due to ‘bloody Ronaldo’.
Manchester United’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League’s final 16 are shaky now, after a 2-2 draw with Atalanta.
And two essentially last-minute goals from Cristiano Ronaldo in either half were all that helped United draw on Tuesday night.
Ronaldo first scored at 45+1 minutes in the first half’s extra time to equalize on an early Atalanta goal. He scored his brace to again equalize for United after 2-1 after a goal at 90+1 minutes, in stoppage time.
So, in Tuesday night’s Champions League Group F, Ronaldo saved Manchester United by scoring to equalize from one down, twice.
And Marten de Roon is not the only Atalanta faithful to vent his annoyance at Ronaldo. Several Atalanta fans, attending the Champions League bout on their Italian home ground, also held Ronaldo responsible for the draw.

But also for Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon, the Dutchman had quoted Gary Lineker’s famous line about football. The latter had uttered this iconic phrase as he celebrated his stoppage-time equaliser for 2-2 against Lazio.
These were Lineker’s words: “Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and in the end, the Germans always win.”
‘Marten de Roon scores’ was the ending of De Roon’s depiction of that Serie A goal.
But De Roon readjusted this addage with a tint of resentment toward CR7, who finished his brace in Bergamo for Manchester United’s 2-2 draw.
De Roon tweeted: “Or bloody Ronaldo.”
Ronaldo has now scored three goals in two Champions League games between the two clubs.
