Edwin van der Sar hopes that within two months there will be clarity about the content of the technical directorship at Ajax. Since the departure of Marc Overmars, Gerry Hamstra and Klaas Jan Huntelaar have taken over and there is no more td.
“It is important to get clarity about this in the next two months,” Van der Sar told Rondo of Ziggo Sport on Monday. The general manager now works together with Hamstra and Huntelaar. ‘It is the task of the supervisory board to appoint the technical director, although it is nice if there is a certain cooperation and you can talk to someone.’
Meanwhile, Ajax does not yet have a technical man on the supervisory board. Edwin remarked, “We want to have clarity within two months about whether the technical director will be hired internally or externally. Are we looking? I do not think so. Gerry also held this position at SC Heerenveen. But the position of technical director has become much bigger in recent years.”
Edwin van der Sar agrees that Daley Blind’s departure from Ajax should have been handled in a neater way. The defender decided to leave Ajax after falling out with trainer Alfred Schreuder. He then signed with Bayern Munich.
Daley Blind’s return
“Daley is a fantastic boy who has meant a lot to Ajax. We wish him every success at Bayern Munich,” Van der Sar told Ziggo Sport’s Rondo on Monday. “He should have had a good farewell at Ajax and that didn’t happen.”
The general manager of Ajax actually did not want to go into Blind’s situation too deeply. But did agree that his relationship with Schreuder was not good. “The relationship was not sparkling, no,” continued Van der Sar, who also admitted that Ajax did not handle it well.
He added, “Why didn’t we sit down and work it out? That’s a good point. That could have brought us together, yes. In the first instance, the technical people are responsible for this. But in the end, as general manager, I am responsible for everything.”
The director did not consider it likely that Blind will return to Ajax in the summer, when his contract with Bayern has expired. Van der Sar concluded, “With Owen Wijndal we had already pre-sorted for Daley’s age and Jorrel Hato is also being brought in slowly. On that front, I think that boat has passed.”
