Football Match: With a 3-2 win against struggling Watford on Sunday, Arsenal leapfrogged Manchester United into the Premier League top four. Cucho Hernandez equalised with a fantastic overhead kick minutes later after Martin Odegaard had opened the scoring for the visitors. After half an hour, England international Saka put Arsenal back in front, and Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli extended Arsenal’s lead early in the second half. Watford got a late goal against the run of play from Moussa Sissoko, but Arsenal held on for an important win.
The win puts Mikel Arteta’s side in fourth place in the Premier League, one point ahead of Manchester United, who play Manchester City later in the evening.
Watford had the ball in the net just after the game began, but Emmanuel Dennis’ effort was deemed offside.
Arsenal swiftly recovered from their early scare and took the lead in the fifth minute thanks to some nice work down the right by Saka, who cut back to Odegaard, who converted with his left foot.
After a cross from Kiko Femenia, Hernandez scored an acrobatic overhead kick from near the penalty spot in the 11th minute, cancelling out Arsenal’s lead.
With a brilliantly created goal scored by Saka soon after the half-hour mark, Arsenal regained their lead.
Just beyond the Watford area, the England player dispossessed Tom Cleverley before transferring to Alexandre Lacazette, who held the ball up before backheeling it to Saka, who scored.
Martinelli added a lovely third for Arsenal early in the second half, hammering home from the edge of the box after a neat layoff from Lacazette.
Despite Arsenal’s supremacy, Watford posed a threat, and Denis could have closed the gap with a chance at the far post with around 20 minutes remaining.
With 10 minutes remaining, Arsenal substitute Eddie Nketiah hit the crossbar, and Sissoko gave the visitors a scare when he bundled the ball home in the 87th minute.
