National coach Didier Deschamps has appointed French keeper Mike Maignan as first goalkeeper for the French national team. The goalkeeper of AC Milan succeeds Hugo Lloris, who said goodbye to Les Bleus after the World Cup in Qatar.

Maignan (27) was missing in Qatar due to a persistent calf injury, but has been back in goal at Milan since the end of February. The Frenchman became champion of Italy with the Rossoneri last season. Maignan has played five international matches for France so far.
“Mike is our new number one,” Deschamps told RMC Sport on Monday. “I will also talk to the other goalkeepers. But for me it is important that there is a clear hierarchy.” West Ham United goalkeeper Alphonse Aréola and RC Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba are the other goal keepers in the French selection for the European Championship qualifiers against the Netherlands and Ireland.
It is up to Maignan to make up for the record international Lloris for France. After 145 international matches, the 35-year-old goalkeeper of Tottenham Hotspur decided to end his international career in December last year. France will play against the Netherlands in Stade de France on Friday and will visit Ireland three days later.
Paris Saint-Germain sees no quick way out and refuses to intervene
Stating in France, Paris Saint-Germain keeps faith in trainer Christophe Galtier. The Parisians are working on a gray and gray season, but the coach does not have to leave the field for the time being.
According to RMC Sport, Galtier does not have to worry about his job for the time being. PSG has a big lead in the French title fight, but has often failed to impress since the turn of the year. Sunday was also lost. At home, the formation of millions fell against Stade Rennais.
That defeat sparked several rumors about Galtier’s future. However, the trainer will remain in his post until at least the end of the season. PSG sees no possibility of getting a top-level replacement in the short term, L’Équipe already wrote.
Due to the inglorious elimination in the eighth finals of the Champions League against Bayern Munich, the pressure on Galtier’s position was already growing. However, the seven-point lead in the French title fight will keep him going for the time being. Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi will, however, remain active in the coming period to orient himself on possible replacements.
