French President Emmanuel Macron has been in the dressing rooms of both teams after the match between France and Morocco. He celebrated with the players of France and handed out a big compliment to Sofyan Amrabat in the dressing room of Morocco, writes journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Images from beIN Sports show Macron individually thanking and congratulating France’s players after the game. According to Romano, he also appeared in Morocco’s dressing room, where he allegedly told Sofyan Amrabat in front of the selection that he was “the best midfielder in the World Cup”.
“The players have made me very proud. It is a mature team that has done a great job,” Macron highlighted. “Giroud played an exceptionally good game. Griezmann was also fantastic. Kolo Muani scores within two minutes after coming on (even after 44 seconds). At Nantes (his old club) they will be proud of him. Theo Hernández is a revelation at this tournament, although he already has a great career. In Lloris we have a great keeper, who we should not forget. Mbappé has done a lot of work, such as with the second goal,” he continued.
Macron’s praise on Morocco
“Morocco has a great team that has had a wonderful World Cup. We knew how to pull this game to us, but they were not afraid of us,” Macron added. The president said he will also be present at the final against Argentina on Sunday. He does not find it problematic to visit the matches. “I’ve always been clear about that. Decisions were made about this World Cup years ago,” he mentioned.
“If the World Cup is played, sport should serve to bring people together. This is also the case with other sports such as rugby or the Olympic Games. We also have to recognize that Qatar is organizing this World Cup very well. Security is also good. It is fantastic that we are in the final. We can be proud and happy about that,” said Macron, who was specifically asked about the banned LGBTI expressions in Qatar. “Yes, there are many things that need to be improved. In many countries things have to be improved. Tonight I am proud of France, of the national team and as a Frenchman. Let’s be happy,” he concluded.
