Germany 3-3 Ukraine: In a friendly match, Germany and Ukraine drew 3-3 on Monday evening. It was the thousandth international match ever for Hansi Flick’s team. For a long time it seemed to turn out to be a failure, but in the end captain Joshua Kimmich saved the day somewhat.
Germany makes a spectacle of jubilee international
The evening started well for the Germans. Niclas Füllkrug, who had already missed a huge opportunity, was hit by a shot from Marius Wolf and the Werder Bremen striker was credited with the 1-0 without much of it. Extra nice for him was that the match was played in the Weserstadion of his employer. The Germans quickly lost their laughter.
Viktor Tsygankov balanced the score within twenty minutes by skillfully completing a quick counter, and five minutes later it was hit again. An attempt by Mykhailo Mudryk was not on target, but Antonio Rüdiger got the ball against him and deflected the ball in such a way that it fell into the net behind Kevin Trapp: 1-2.
The German comeback
The third Ukrainian goal came after the break after a mistake by defender Matthias Ginter. He did not take the ball well, so that Artem Dovbyk took it away and played wide on Tsygankov, who got his second goal in the lap. Kai Havertz brought back the tension in the final phase, after which Kimmich used a penalty in stoppage time to draw a draw for Die Mannschaft in their anniversary match.
Germany will play two more exhibition games in the next eight days: on Friday in and against Poland, next Tuesday against Colombia. After all, as host country they do not have to qualify for next summer’s European Championship. Ukraine still has two games for the marbles: Friday against North Macedonia, Monday against Malta.
Flick emphasises the need for his staff to keep working on the coordination. “During the games and the training sessions, we must focus on it. We must be able to point out our shortcomings with clarity. We’ve gotten things moving. In the upcoming duels, we must address these errors and defend more fiercely,” he said.
