Ukraine appoints Sergiy Rebrov as their new national coach. He must lead the country to the European Championship in 2024.
New national coach for Ukraine on his way to European Championship
The 49-year-old Rebrov has 75 international matches for Ukraine to his name. As head coach he worked for Dinamo Kiev, Al-Ahli, Ferençvaros and Al-Ain. Rebrov was also an assistant coach of the Ukrainian national team. Now he’s in charge of that. “This is a special moment, because this chapter is written during martial law and in a special period for our country,” Sergiy Rebrov refers to the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine will play an exhibition match against Germany next Monday. The European Championship qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta are then scheduled. Ukraine lost the first qualifying match 2-0 to England.
Flick explains leaving Süle at home: “Attitude and mentality must improve”
Hansi Flick demands more from Niklas Süle if he wants to be called up again for Die Mannschaft. The national coach claims that the Borussia Dortmund defender is currently dropping too many stitches.
The 27-year-old Niklas Süle, who made the switch from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund last summer, was still a regular part of Die Mannschaft last World Cup in Qatar. He will be left out for the next three international matches in Germany. “I think he misses a lot, I want him to take steps in his attitude and his mentality,” Flick told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
“I was ninety percent satisfied. But ten percent is missing.”
“For me, Niki could be one of the best central defenders out there. His potential is enormous,” said the German manager, who does not make his criticism very specific. “I was ninety percent satisfied. But the ten percent that is missing does not make that good enough. That’s what matters to me. I think every player of the national team has a duty to get the most out of his potential. Getting away with less, that doesn’t fit my mentality.”
Germany will practice against Ukraine (June 12), Poland (June 16) and Colombia (June 20) in the next two weeks.
