Guardiola apologizes to Steven Gerrard for disrespectful comments. The Manchester City coach made an attempt to defend his club, but inadvertently sneered at the former Liverpool player.
Manchester City have been charged with 101 offenses by the Premier League. Guardiola says the allegations have a major impact on how people view Manchester City’s successes in recent years. “Are we responsible for Steven Gerrard slipping at Anfield?” he said last week.
At the press conference in the run-up to the top match against Arsenal, Guardiola expressed regret for that statement. “I apologize to Steven Gerrard for my unnecessary and stupid comment I posted about him last time. He knows how much I admire him and his career and everything he has done for this country. He doesn’t deserve this,” the Catalan mentioned.
Guardiola made an attempt to defend his own club, but that was accompanied by an attack from his side. “I didn’t represent my club well there by mentioning his name in this context. I personally apologized to him, but because I said this publicly, I have to do the same here. Apologies to him, his wife and his children, because it was just stupid,” he added.
Another one of Luis Suárez controversy
Speaking of Steven Gerrard, his former teammate Luis Suárez has not lost his pranks at all. The 36-year-old Uruguayan showed his cunning in Grêmio’s shirt, which led to the deployment of the security forces on the field.
The Brazilian Grêmio is happy with the arrival of Suárez, who has scored seven times in five matches since his entrance. Against Avenida he was involved in another goal as a declarer.
The hit sparked controversy. Suárez had benefited from the inattention at Avendia, which had been busy protesting the arbitral decision. Cristaldo’s goal was therefore fuel to the fire of the guests, who could not contain their frustration and turned their anger on the referee.
After the double red card because of the ongoing protests, things went from bad to worse. Avendia’s collective protest went so far that security forces entered the field to keep the peace. That had results. The game was played out, with Grêmio winning (2-0).
