After much build-up around his return, AC Milan striker Ibrahimovic won’t play Euro 2020 due to injury.
The Swedish national team reinvited Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Euro 2020’s qualifier matches.
After finding out that he was back in demand, Ibra renamed his comeback as “the return of the God”.
However, he admitted his family were torn up about his spending more time away from them, crying as he talked of his son crying.
Still, Ibra and his fans would’ve been pumped to see him compete on the big stage as Sweden’s oldest player.
But now, 39-year-old Ibrahimovic won’t play Euro 2020 due to injury.
Ibra has been ruled out of the upcoming European Championship on account of an injury, Sweden’s national team has confirmed.
In a statement released on Saturday via Twitter, Svensk Fotboll announced to the world that Zlatan would be out.
Translated, the message read: “Today, Zlatan has informed [head coach] Janne Andersson that his injury will stop him from participating in the European Championships this summer.”
“Get well, Zlatan, we hope to see you on the football field again soon!” the message added.
How Was Ibra Injured?
The AC Milan striker pulled up with a knee injury in the second half of the Rossoneri’s recent 3-0 thumping of Juventus.
Head coach Stefano Pioli had originally hoped that the AC Milan striker merely suffered a ‘slight knock’.
Pioli had said after that match: “Ibra wasn’t fit before the game, now he feels pain in his knee and we hope it’s nothing too serious.”
However, it now appears that the 39-year-old will need a substantial amount of time to recover.
So, he will no longer feature for Sweden in this summer’s competition.
