After setting up a deal for Timo Werner, Chelsea was encouraged to compete with Liverpool for another reported transfer target, with Frank Leboeuf saying that Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly would be “very well appropriate” to Stamford Bridge.
Talking about possible clubs for Koulibaly with ESPN FC, former Chelsea defender Leboeuf said, “You have to make a choice on a number of points. The question is:‘What’s the best fit for Koulibaly?’ and certainly for Van Dijk, and if you’re a defender like Koulibaly that would be the best central defense in the world.”
He thus admits to the possibility of the player moving to Liverpool, further saying, “I know he has a link with Liverpool, Van Dijk and Koulibaly in the back- my God, that’s going to be another Red Season, I guess.”
He rules out Manchester United for the expert player, “I will never ask him to go to Manchester United for a number of reasons. I want him to win a few things, and I don’t think Manchester United is the club they used to be, and they’re not ready to win.”
Finally, he lands on Chelsea: “I think Chelsea need a player like that. I don’t know if Koulibaly will be interested, but even if they have two very good central defenders, Koulibaly, is on a different level and fits very well.”
