Leverkusen 5-0 Union Berlin: Union Berlin has been dealt a serious blow in the Bundesliga. Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen was too strong, following the break courtesy of five goals. Union had been on top since the sixth round, but Bayern Munich had taken the lead.
Because the pace was slow in the first half and both teams appeared uninspired, no goals were scored before halftime. Before halftime, Leverkusen didn’t know what to do with their dominance of ball possession, but a corner presented a solution at the start of the second half. Kerem Demirbay sent in a spinning cross that was easily converted by Robert Andrich from close range.
The score was 2-0 as a result of an error by goalie Lennart Grill. Grill was much off target and was passed back. He took too long and allowed Frimpong to steal the ball, which Moussa Diaby doubled. With Diaby’s 3-0, a Dutchman also contributed: Bakker provided a through pass to his teammate at the appropriate time, who was once again accurate.
Adam Hlozek increased the lead to four with a superb close-range chop. Hlozek served as principal at Bakker’s 5-0. The left back came in from behind, collected a wide pass from Hlozek, and looked for the far corner. As a result, Bakker determined the final score. Only Bayern Munich (5-0 against Borussia Dortmund in April 2019) has triumphed by such a large margin against league leaders in this century.
Leverkusen 5-0 Union Berlin: Frimpong consoled Grill
Following the 3-0, a nice moment occurred. Frimpong realised Grill was having a bad day and comforted him by patting him on the head. The two players are acquainted because Grill is on loan from Leverkusen to Union. But, seventeen minutes before the conclusion, Frimpong’s negativity took over. Julian Ryerson knocked him down on the sidelines, and he proceeded to redress the Norwegian. Notably, the linesman drew Frimpong away from the action and calmed him down. Frimpong was replaced shortly after the incident by fellow countryman Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
