Champions Lille extended their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to nine games in a rescheduled match on Wednesday. So, among other related Ligue 1 football news, Lille outclassed the visiting Lorient by 3-1, winning confidently at home.
Lille effectively wrapped up victory by securing three goals in the opening half hour itself. Lille delivered goals via Isaac Lihadji and Reinildo on either side of a Moritz Jenz own goal.
United States forward Timothy Weah ended a seven-week layoff by entering in the game’s 68th minute, as a substitute. Weah had not played since December 1’s match at Rennes, and two days later, he injured a thigh during training.
Meanwhile, this result yesterday lifted Jocelyn Gourvennec’s Lille side, who lost three of their six first games this season. They are now eighth on 32 points after 21 games. This is is 18 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and seven behind second-placed Nice.
Lorient, on the other hand, are down below at 18th place with 17 points. In the meantime, Strasbourg have climbed to fourth on 35 points after a 2-0 win at Clermont.

Lille made a brilliant start in a game that Ligue 1 had postponed because of some COVID-19 cases at Lorient.
The hosts broke the deadlock quickly, in the 10th minute, when Lihadji fired home from close range. This was after Paul Nardi parried Jonathan David’s strike.
Nine minutes later, Jenz deflected Burak Yilmaz’s shot into his own net. And it got even worse for Lorient when Reinildo headed home from Renato Sanches’s free-kick.
Lorient responded to the three first-half goals with a stoppage-time goal of their own, from Sambou Soumano. But this wasn’t enough and it was a mere consolation goal amidst their 3-1 loss.
