Actually, they are just one of six teams within six points of the runner-up spot, all fighting for second place.
Ligue 1 Football News – Mbappe’s Brace Helped PSG Beat Monaco 2-0
In Paris, at the Parc des Princes, Monaco started well with Sofiane Diop coming close to scoring an opening goal. However, his attempt, coming early in the second minute itself, crashed when the ball ran right into goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Meanwhile, it took PSG only 12 minutes to take the initial lead, when Djibril Sidibe brought down Angel Di Maria. Mbappe converted the resulting penalty ruling into a 1-0 home goal.
PSG relied on Mbappe again to double the tally at the end of a sharp counter-attack, after Di Maria’s assist. And the France forward promptly fired the ball into the far corner for his ninth league goal of the season.
PSG full-back Juan Bernat suffered a thigh injury and Thilo Kehrer had to replace him 51st minute.
Lionel Messi had an opportunity to score a goal in the 71st minute but his crossed shot went just wide.
He had another chance just 10 minutes from time but this time too, the former Barcelona player’s chip was off-target.
On the other hand, Monaco had a couple of chances to reduce the arrears but PSG stayed composed. And eventually, they did get their first win in three Ligue 1 matches after two draws.
