Middlesbrough have signed Manchester City and USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen. Boro announced: “The club has completed the loan signing of USA international goalkeeper Zack Steffen.
“The 27-year-old joins from Manchester City and completed the formalities of his season-long switch on Tuesday morning before joining his new team-mates for the trip to Morecambe.
“Steffen is highly-rated at City and signed a new four-year contract with the club last November.”
The Citizens confirmed the signing on the website. They stated: “Zack Steffen has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.
“The 27-year-old goalkeeper will spend the 2022/23 campaign with Chris Wilder’s Championship outfit.
“Everyone at Manchester City wishes Zack the best of luck during his loan spell.”
“I think it’s a big coup for us and so I’m delighted we’ve brought Zack in,” Chris Wilder said.
“We knew we had to improve the goalkeeping department. We brought in Liam Roberts and now we’re adding Zack who has just signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Man City.
“Man City don’t hand out four-and-a-half-year contracts if they don’t think anything of them.
“Everyone knows his situation, he needed to play because of the World Cup. He had an agreement with Man City, but he could have easily stayed there and sat comfortably as their number two.”
