‘Missing’ Dele Alli just reports to Besiktas’ training on Thursday. The 26-year-old English midfielder put an end to the stories about his absence.
Besiktas flop Alli makes contact
Besiktas coach Senol Gunes had caused confusion about Alli during a press conference. “We have given him permission for a short holiday, but now we are trying to find out where he is,” said the coach.
The answer to the missing person came from Alli herself via Instagram. “Hey guys, I just got a flood of messages so I want to bring some clarity,” said the missing player. “The club has given me permission to visit a doctor. I intend to be back for training on Thursday.”
Alli was hired by Besiktas from Everton last summer, but his adventure in Turkey is not exactly a success story. Trainer Senol Gunes would no longer want to appeal to the Englishman for the remainder of the season, who cannot leave Besiktas prematurely due to a clause in his contract.
Ghanaian goalkeeper survives goal post disaster scare
Talking about dodging a bullet, Joseph Wollacott had an angel on the crossbar this week. The Ghanaian goalkeeper escaped with a fright when a goal fell on him.
Wollacott was hit by a falling goal during training for the Ghana national team. It sparked concerns at The Black Stars. The Bristol City goalie took to the sidelines at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, shaken.
The concerns were unfounded. The Ghanaian federation said that the damage was not too bad. Investigations showed that Wollacott had not sustained any serious injuries from the incident. The slightly bruised right big toe will probably not stand in the way of the goalkeeper’s performance in the duel with Angola.
Chilean League keeper puts his name in the Guinness Book of Records
Sticking with the topic of unforgettable goalkeeper moments. Goalies’ goals are already special. But Leandro Requena’s is very special. The Argentinian is, to his own delight, eligible for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
Cobresal’s game had come into the last fifteen minutes when Requena blasted the ball forward from his own goal area. To his own surprise, the ball disappeared into Colo Colo’s goal, partly due to a blunder by fellow goalkeeper Brayan Cortés.
This extremely special hit may be given a record status. Calculations in Chile have shown that a distance of 101 meters has been bridged, which could easily break Tom King’s record – 96 meters in Newport County’s game against Cheltenham Town in 2021.
Cobresal has now applied for an entry in the Guinness Book of Record, to the delight of Requena. The Argentine goalie also had special explanations about his goal. The altitude – Cobresal plays at 2,400 meters above sea level – played a role. According to him, “I wanted to kick the ball quickly, as we so often do when we play at height, to surprise the opponent. And I did that a bit harder than usual now.”
