Lucas Torreira has left Arsenal to play on loan at Fiorentina until the end of the season, the club confirmed. So, from the Serie A club, we bring you news of official football transfers – Torreira joins Fiorentina on loan.
Lucas Torreira joined Arsenal in 2018 and had a promising debut season, wherein he missed only four Premier League games.
Torreira even played a key role for the Gunners in the 2019/20 season. But despite this success, he recently fell out of favor at the Emirates Stadium after coronavirus induced a football break.
As a result, Torreira spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he helped Diego Simeone’s team become champions. After all, Atlecico Madrid won La Liga 2020-21, the last season, and are now defending title-holders this season in Spain.
Official Football Transfers – Torreira Joins Fiorentina on Loan
Now, after failing to break into Mikel Arteta’s plans during this new campaign’s pre-season as well, Lucas Torreira has moved.
He has agreed to join Italian top-flight outfit Fiorentina on a temporary basis, on a loan, for the upcoming season.
“Fiorentina announces it has acquired, on a temporary basis with the right to buy, the sporting rights of the player Lucas Torreira from Arsenal Football Club,” the Italian club explained in a statement published on their official website.
The statement continued: “The new Viola footballer, born in Fray Bentos (Uruguay) on 11 February 1996, last season wore the Atletico Madrid shirt, with which he won the 2020-21 La Liga.
“Torreira also wore the Uruguayan national team shirt on 31 occasions, participating with the ‘Celeste’ in the last Copa America.”
Fiorentina was one of several European clubs interested in Lucas Torreira, with the latest football news reporting an imminent announcement.
And now, they have signed the Arsenal outcast on loan with an alleged option to buy the midfielder next summer.
They may thus secure Torreira’s commitment to them on a permanent deal for around £13 million, that is, €15 million.
