Real Madrid and Eden Hazard are separating. The Royal announced on Saturday evening on the club’s website that the one-year contract of the man who was once brought in for 115 million euros will be dissolved by mutual agreement.
Real Madrid say goodbye to record bad buy Hazard
Hazard was the top purchase from Real Madrid in the summer of 2019, but never found the top form in Spain that he regularly achieved at Chelsea. This was partly due to many injuries. Hazard played 76 games for Real in four years, scoring just seven goals.
Despite the lack of playing time, Hazard recently stated that he intended to serve out his contract with Real. Nevertheless, it is now coming to an early divorce: it has been agreed to separate this summer. Hazard’s contract is being dissolved, meaning he can now look for a new club on a free transfer.
End of career is very close for Hazard after an inglorious farewell
It is unclear whether Hazard will take that opportunity. The Athletic claims that the 126-time Belgian international is considering quitting altogether. Eden Hazard is deafeningly silent after his departure from Real Madrid has been announced. Belgian media also thinks that the 32-year-old attacker can put an end to his career after this season.
There has not yet been a reaction from Hazard after Real announced in a statement on Saturday evening that the winger is leaving. An agreement was reached with Hazard about dissolving the contract, which actually ran until mid-2024. A contract that earned Hazard an annual gross of 28 million euros. It is a staggeringly high salary, but a salary that fits a purchase that was made for a transfer fee of 115 million euros. However, the former Chelsea tastemaker never lived up to expectations in Madrid.
Hazard only shared Real’s short statement via Instagram on Saturday evening. He did not yet respond to his farewell or announce a new adventure. In his home country it is feared that the end of his career has been reached. De Morgen writes: “Madrid opened the door to a termination of the contract, Hazard – now reportedly completely demotivated.”
Three months ago, in an interview with RTBF, Hazard expressed the wish to stay at Real for at least one more full season, to finally be able to show his class again. At Sporza it is underlined that Hazard in the same interview alluded to a quick end to his career. “I already said goodbye to the national team, so the next thing will be completely over,” he said three months ago. It is perhaps also significant that Sunday morning is not buzzing with rumors about a departure to another club. It threatens to become increasingly quiet around Hazard.
