Andrea Pirlo returns to management at Sampdoria, which has been relegated to Serie B. The former stylist in midfield has been presented at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, he signs for two years.
New manager job for Pirlo with fallen superpower
It looked like Fabio Grosso would get the job, but at the last minute new owner Andrea Radrizzani (also the boss at Leeds United) decided to choose another player from the 2006 World Cup winning squad. Due to Radrizzani’s recent entry, the fallen superpower from Genoa can at least start in Serie B, the competition to which the club was relegated last season. Without that intervention, bankruptcy and a free fall to the depths of Italian football would have threatened.
The now 44-year-old Pirlo stopped playing football in 2017. Three years later he was appointed as the new manager of Juventus, but not for long. A run of nine Serie A titles in a row was broken and Pirlo left after one season. His second job as final responsible was also not a resounding success: Fatih Karagümrük fired him just before the end of the competition last month.
Seedorf finally starts working at the KNVB
Speaking of Pirlo, his former teammate, Clarence Seedorf has been officially appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of the KNVB. The former football player was nominated in March, he was appointed on Tuesday during the general meeting of professional football.
Seedorf succeeds Han Berger, who left the KNVB. The former midfielder and multiple Champions League winner will be responsible for the football technical portfolio.
The joining of the former top player was already confirmed. However, the appointment was made official on Tuesday. With the arrival of Seedorf, the KNVB’s supervisory board is now complete. In addition to the 87-time international, Jan Albers, Elsemieke Havenga-Hillen, Niek Jan van Kesteren and Jeroen Slop are also part of that supervisory board.
Kluivert is on his way to a club in Turkey
Seedorf’s former teammate, Patrick Kluivert will probably be the new manager of Adana Demirspor. The 46-year-old former professional can sign with the club from Turkey for two years. The negotiations are in the final phase.
Kluivert was active as head coach at Jong FC Twente, Curaçao and Cameroon (together with Clarence Seedorf). As an assistant coach he worked at Brisbane Roar, NEC and the Dutch national team. Kluivert worked at Barcelona as head of youth academy and as director of football affairs at Paris Saint-Germain.
Adana Demirspor finished fourth in the Süper Lig, Turkey’s highest level, last season. The club is in the preliminary round of the Conference League. At Adana Demirspor, Kluivert meets former AZ player Jonas Svensson.
