Alfred Schreuder has been fired as the head coach of Ajax. The record champion announces through the official channels that the collaboration with the coach has been terminated immediately.
Schreuder had only been working at Ajax since the summer, where he was appointed as the successor to Erik ten Hag, who left for Manchester United. Schreuder had previously worked in Amsterdam as an assistant to Ten Hag. However, the renewed cooperation between club and manager did not work out as hoped.
Schreuder has been under pressure for some time due to the disappointing results in the Champions League and Eredivisie. The blistering draw at home against FC Volendam (1-1), the seventh Eredivisie match in a row without a win, was the well-known drop for the technical management. Ajax is now seven points behind the leader and will try to close that gap with a new manager for the group.
Ajax managers with shortest stints
His resignation from Ajax has given Alfred Schreuder a sad statistic. This century, Amsterdam did not say goodbye to a manager as quickly as the Barnevelder. Except for one predecessor.
Schreuder started last summer as the successor to Erik ten Hag. After only 26 duels, he has already had to make way as manager of Ajax, which said goodbye to the Barnevelder after the draw against FC Volendam. His point average of 1.68 was too thin.
For the team from Amsterdam, Schreuder is one of the fastest departing coaches this century. Only for Marcel Keizer the curtain fell earlier on the twelve head coaches, who sat on the bench at Ajax. The interim coaches are not included in this. Keizer, who was fired after six months in 2017, was on the Ajax bench for a total of 24 matches.
