Chelsea are busy looking for a successor to sacked Graham Potter. Talks with (camp) Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have now started, Sky Sports knows. The latter, according to the information of the English medium, is currently in London.
Chelsea’s quest: talks with top candidates have started
Luis Enrique (52) has been out of work since his departure from the Spanish national team after the last World Cup in Qatar. He is now one of the top candidates for the job at Chelsea. Nagelsmann (35), who was sent away from Bayern Munich last month, carries the same title. For the time being, Chelsea only has contact with the German’s management.
According to the English information, Nagelsmann would prefer not to get involved until the summer. The coach needs some time to process his resignation from Bayern and to recharge the battery. It can therefore not be ruled out that Chelsea will finish the season with an interim coach. Remarkably enough, The Sun puts Frank Lampard forward for this job: club icon Lampard was previously the final responsible at Stamford Bridge with not much success.
In addition to Luis Enrique and Nagelsmann, there are more trainers on the list at Chelsea, such as Mauricio Pochettino (clubless), Rúben Amorim (Sporting Portugal), Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Luciano Spalletti (Napoli). The name of former Chelsea coach José Mourinho (AS Roma) has also been mentioned, but this seems to be a sandwich monkey story.
Roberto De Zerbi is not on the Chelsea list
In any case, Brighton & Hove Albion does not have to fear that it will lose another successful coach to Chelsea, according to Sky Sports. The medium has understood that Roberto De Zerbi is not on the London list. The Zerbi joined Brighton this season after Chelsea picked up Graham Potter in the south of England. However, the collaboration with Potter was not a success for the ambitious Blues and the manager was fired last Sunday.
Chelsea are now managed by interim manager Bruno Saltor, Potter’s former assistant. With the Spaniard ultimately responsible along the line, Chelsea drew 0-0 against Liverpool on Tuesday. Chelsea is eleventh in the Premier League and is still active in the Champions League. A diptych with title holder Real Madrid awaits in the quarterfinals.
