Thomas Tuchel’s first loss has come and he has been working at Bayern Munich for over a week and received a serious downer on Tuesday evening. The coach saw his team kicked out of the DFB-Pokal by SC Freiburg, and was extremely disappointed by the rather unexpected result. That was not the case for Bayern Munich’s defender Matthijs de Ligt
Disappointed Thomas Tuchel releases Bayern, De Ligt wants quick revenge
“Not angry, why should I be angry?” he denied after guessing about his state of mind on the ARD. “We scored two goals from two long shots, I can’t remember more chances from them. There were a lot of good things today, we started well and at times it was really good. We only make it difficult to exploit those moments. Then it’s about the last pass, about the right decisions,” Thomas Tuchel analysed.
The coach continued: “We got through a few times, but we couldn’t do that all the time. We came 1-0 up, had two three good chances and the 1-1 came out of nowhere. In the final phase we made some mistakes, we lost two headers, and allowed the ball to fall into our box. It’s our own fault, and we’re extremely disappointed. I’m responsible for it, that’s clear.”
What now, with a killer program for the book in the coming weeks? “Tomorrow I gave everyone a day off, our internationals need to sleep in their own beds. On Saturday, the title fight is still very exciting,” Thomas Tuchel looked ahead to the next game in the Bundesliga, at.. SC Freiburg.
De Ligt: “At Bayern Munich I think we always have to play for all the prizes”
Matthijs de Ligt is already looking forward to that confrontation. “Today we weren’t good enough, and if you don’t score you always get against him. We didn’t create enough, we really have to do better against Freiburg on Saturday. And I didn’t have the feeling that we really wanted to win the duels. This is a pity, because at Bayern I think we always have to play for all the prizes, but we will have to keep going,” said the former Juventus and Ajax defender.
