The last Champions League final’s post-game interview with German TV journalist Nils Kaben, in which Kroos remarked, “Seriously? You had 90 minutes to consider some intelligent questions, and now you’re asking me two foolish ones? Here are a few of the interesting questions and their answers from Kroos.
How does it feel (Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool’s coach, and his opponent in the most recent final) to have won five Champions Leagues?
As simple as the question may appear, it is very nice. When you’re still working, it’s really challenging to gauge your success. To reach a conclusion, a number of factors must be combined. I found it difficult to accept Bayern’s defeat to Chelsea in 2012. It is wonderful to have five Champions League championships. And it’s wonderful to see that you did.
What do you recall about the first Clasico? (FC Barcelona striker Lewandowski)
The start couldn’t have been worse, and I won 3-1. Neymar’s goal gave Barça the lead at home, the Bernabéu, after just a few minutes. And I reflected, “Aha. That is how the Clasicos operate. But in the end, we were able to change the course of events. First significant day in Madrid for me. A few days prior to the game, on the bus to the stadium, and of course in the locker room, we become aware of the significance of the match for the club and the fans.
What was the most difficult choice you ever had to make professionally? (Rafael Nadal)
In terms of sports, I was fortunate to always have a number of excellent options, so switching teams was not difficult. My most challenging choice was a wound. I suffered greatly with pubalgia the previous year. Even though I was in a lot of agony, each time there were significant victories: the Champions League quarter- and semi-finals, then the 2021 European Championship. I fought for four months while posing as someone else. It was quite challenging, especially the training sessions. But as soon as I made the choice to proceed, I realised I would face challenges.
