After Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side won the Champions League final over Manchester City, they celebrated extravagantly in the locker room. After that victory last Saturday in Porto, some may wonder – why did Tuchel’s trainers star in Chelsea’s Champions League celebrations?
Well, we finally have the answer, from Tuchel himself!
Thomas Tuchel has revealed why his trainers figured prominently in Blues’ dressing room celebrations.
Blues players were ecstatic over Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the 2021 Champions League final.
They celebrated with their coach’s shoes after playing their best football against the “best” England team at the moment.
The Blues players headed back to their dressing room on the back of their title to revel in their success, away from prying eyes.
Soon after, their coach Tuchel joined the party, with a champagne bottle in hand.
With this, events took a bizarre turn as his footwear became the centre of all attention and celebration.
Olivier Giroud, Antonio Rudiger and Kurt Zouma were quick to get involved with Tuchel’s trainers, holding them up in celebration.
Then, players doused their German coach’s footwear in champagne.
So, Tuchel saw his footwear play a prominent role in the locker room antics that followed a memorable European triumph.
His trainers suddenly became central to a party that should have been focused on a famous piece of continental silverware.
And the head coach has explained this bizarre gesture in a post after the UCL final on Chelsea’s official website.

Tuchel Reveals the Secret about His Magic Shoes
The Blues head coach has explained the fans’ pressing question – why did Tuchel’s trainers star in Chelsea’s Champions League celebrations?
Explaining the surprising celebratory prop, former Paris Saint-Germain and new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel talked to Chelsea’s official website.
Tuchel has said: “I had these exact trainers in Paris and I made a promise that we will wear these shoes when we reach the Champions League final.
“They were a present from the president at PSG and I promised my staff I would wear them in the final.
“I did not wear them that day, and we lost [to Bayern Munich]. I made sure I wore them this year and they worked!”
