LIV Golf Invitational Series: Dustin Johnson won the dramatic play-off match in Boston and earned his first LIV Golf Invitational Series championship by sinking a long eagle putt.
Following a bogey on the first hole, Johnson returned to card six birdies in a final-round 65. Johnson finished on 15 under par with LIV Golf rookies Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann.
The group went back to the par-five 18th for the play-off, where Johnson aced the long-range eagle putt after reaching the green in two to become the first American to win a LIV Golf competition.
“It means a lot,” said winner Johnson. “Obviously with the calibre of players that are playing, especially now on LIV, we’ve got great fields every week. We’re going to continue to have great fields. It’s probably going to even get better starting next year. But even right now our fields are unbelievable.
“For me, it’s something new. It’s something exciting. I’m really enjoying being out here, and we’re playing at great venues and they do a wonderful job putting on the tournaments.
“I think you talk to any of the fans, the players, whoever, staff, they do a great job taking care of everyone and making it a great experience for everyone.
“I’m just really happy to be a part of it.”
India’s Lahiri, who tied for second place with Niemann following the Chilean’s 66 after missing an eight-foot eagle opportunity on his penultimate hole in regulation, shot a six-under 64.
With a bogey on the last hole of his final round of the day, Lee Westwood, who had been tied for first with Cameron Smith and the Open champion at 14 under par, nearly broke the tie for the lead with four players.

Talor Gooch shot a one-under 69 to fall to sixth place ahead of Jason Kokrak, while Abraham Ancer took eighth and Louis Oosthuizen tied for ninth with Kevin Na and Sergio Garcia. Talor Gooch also grabbed eighth place.
For the third time in a row, Johnson was also a member of the winning team, which included Gooch, Patrick Reed, and Pat Perez from 4 Aces GC. They finished on 32 under par, two strokes better than Crushers GC.
“The juices were definitely flowing,” added Reed. “I think I had five or six left, and they came up to me and said, hey, one, you’re counting, and we’re down two, so try to do something.
