Chevron Championship: Georgia Hall, one of the world’s top players, claims her dedication is starting to bear fruit as she competes in the first women’s major of the year.
The No. 10 in the world now holds the top spot in the LPGA season standings as a result of four top-10 finishes thus far in 2018, including a tie for sixth at the LOTTE Tournament last week.
Hall, who has won her sole major to date in the British Open, is well-positioned to compete for a second title at the Chevron Championship.
She stated on Tuesday, “I don’t think I have a weakness in my game at all, and I think that’s partly why I’ve been really consistent. I believe that the most powerful aspect of my game is my mentality, and that’s the reason I play well.
“But yeah, I think it’s just a mix of the last year or two of hard work and moving it up another level, and now it’s just all coming together very well, and I’m delighted the hard work is paying off,” the speaker continued.
The only player with more birdies than Hall (91) thus far in 2023 is Nelly Korda (99), and Hall (2.480) is second only to Ruoning Yin (2.710) in terms of strokes gained per round.
The 27-year-old has attributed some of her increased consistency to a more polished approach to her putting.
Well, she said, “I think I’ve learned a lot about my golf swing over the past couple of years, as well as what I do and think about when I’m playing well. I don’t really utilise many drills when I put them, I know it’s ridiculous. I kind of puttered around without giving it any thought. Now that I utilise this fantastic putting mat, it just makes it possible for me to adjust my stroke every time a new week begins. It gives me a little more self-assurance when I’m putting.
“This year’s putter is new. I may have used my old putter for eight years or more, but I’ve since changed, and I believe I’ve been putting fairly well with it so far this year. That, in my opinion, is one of the best aspects of my game so far.”
