Valero Texas Open: After winning the Valero Texas Open by one stroke, Corey Conners snapped a four-year winless streak on the PGA Tour.
The Canadian, who had already earned a spot in The Masters, shot a final-day round of 68 at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course to win for the first time since winning the same competition in 2019.
Conners, who started the day one stroke behind 54-hole leader Patrick Rodgers, capitalised on the par-five second hole before making birdies at holes six and nine and holing a putt from 20 feet at hole fifteen.
Sam Stevens, who shot a final-round 66, was the 31-year-closest old’s rival when he parred each of the final three holes to hold off the chasing pack and win his second PGA Tour event.
“It was a battle today, but he trusted his skills and recalled several successful strokes he had made earlier in the week under particular circumstances,” Conners said. “It was undoubtedly difficult there, but I’m quite satisfied and proud of how I fought.”
Stevens matched Conners’ 72-hole total with a 15-foot eagle putt at the par-five eighth and added another at the driveable par-four seventeenth, but she was unable to make a birdie at the par-five 18th.
