Valero Texas Open: As he seeks to win his first PGA Tour championship and qualify for the Masters, Patrick Rodgers holds a one-shot lead going into the final round of the Valero Texas Open.
At the Oaks Course, Rodgers shot a one-under-par 71 to sit at 12 under par. He made three birdies but bogeyed the par-four sixth and par-five 18th holes to end the round poorly.
“I believe that everyone is aware of what is at risk if we win this game,” Rodgers remarked. “While I haven’t completed the task in my career, it is rather exciting. I play and compete for these reasons, and I can’t wait to go out tomorrow.”
30-year-old Rodgers is starting his 235th Tour. He has finished in second place three times and has led competitions after 54 holes four times.

“There are plenty pursuing players and outstanding players here,” according to Rodgers.
“Certainly, having an advantage is the best position to be in, but it’s going to take a terrific round to get it done.”
Corey Conners of Canada, who won the 2019 Texas Valero Open, is one shot back after shooting a 69 that included seven birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey at the par-four sixth hole.
Conners stated, “I feel like this is a fantastic opportunity here. I’ve been working hard over the last number of years to try to get back in the winner’s circle and give myself some opportunities. I adore this golf course and am very at ease here. Indeed, the fight will be entertaining, but I’ll give it my best.”
After shooting a three-under 69, Matt Kuchar (nine under) is alone in third place, while Sam Stevens (68) and Chris Kirk (69) are level for fourth place at eight under.
Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, 51, shot a 68 to tie for sixth place with six other golfers at seven under. If he wins on Sunday, the three-time major champion will move up to third place among PGA Tour winners in terms of age.
Six golfers are tied for 12th place at six under after Hideki Matsuyama, a former Masters champion, shot a 68 on Saturday.
After his 70, defending champion JJ Spaun is tied for 30th at three under. After shooting a 71, Rickie Fowler is tied for 43rd at two under, one of a group of players who must win the Texas Open to earn a spot in next week’s Masters.
Due to the darkness on Friday, the second round was postponed. It was finished on Saturday with the cut at par.
