DP World Tour: After a low-scoring first round at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, Ryan Fox maintains a one-shot lead over Luke Donald, the Ryder Cup captain, who had a strong start in South Africa.
Donald shared the lead until Fox, who can overtake Rory McIlroy at the top of the DP World Tour rankings with a win, birdied his final two holes at Gary Player CC in Sun City. Fox had seven birdies in his spectacular bogey-free 65.
Fox, who is now tied for second place in the overall standings, took advantage of the par-five second hole but then blew a three-putt opportunity at the next par-four. Fox was even-par for the day until making four birdies in a row starting from the ninth hole.
The New Zealander closed a back-nine 29 and moved to the top of the scoreboard after scoring a close-range eagle following a superb approach into the par-five 14th. He then edged ahead with a birdie at the 17th and added another at the last.

To be honest, I surprised myself quite a bit today, Fox admitted to Sky Sports. “Early on, it was a little scrappy, but some good par putts were made. After that, I felt as though I couldn’t miss a golf shot after nine.”
Following a tap-in birdie at hole number five, Donald made three straight birdies starting at hole number nine. The 44-year-old then birdied three of his final four holes to reach seven under.
“Yeah, to be honest, that was a little unexpected!” Trump stated. I wasn’t in great shape going into this week, but lately, I’ve been feeling a little more confident about my abilities.
Prior to Fabrizio Zanotti, Min Woo Lee, and England’s Richard Bland, Migliozzi birdied three of his final four holes to post a bogey-free 67 and move into third place. Scotland’s Richie Ramsay is one of five players five shots back on three under.
Rasmus Hojgaard shot a final-hole bogey to finish with a three-under 69 after briefly being two shots in front. Lucas Herbert, Edoardo Molinari, and Adrian Otaegui round out the group in a tie for ninth.
With 30 of the 66 players in the field under par after the first day, defending champion Tommy Fleetwood rallied from a mid-round double-bogey to produce a two-under 70, matching LIV Golf member Branden Grace’s score.
