Genesis Invitational: After winning the Genesis Invitational with a thrilling victory against Max Homa in the last round, Jon Rahm earned a return to the top of the global rankings.
At Riviera Golf Club, the Spaniard entered the final round with a three-shot lead but trailed Homa with six holes remaining. He then gained the advantage by making outstanding birdies on both par threes on the back nine.
Rahm moved to 17 under with a hole-in-one at the 14th and came within inches of a hole-in-one at the 16th. Pars on the next two holes allowed Rahm to finish with a two-under 69 and defeat Homa by two shots.
Rahm’s victory marks his 10th PGA Tour triumph and fifth triumph in his past nine starts internationally. This most recent triumph enabled Rahm to surpass Scottie Scheffler, who finished the week tied for 12th, at the top of the world rankings.
Once Rahm continued his stellar season, People compared him to Marvel super-villain Thanos. He stated: “He most definitely is Thanos. He has a large collection of [infinity] stones. He is a fantastic golfer and possesses no flaws. He has been this person for a while.”
Genesis Invitational: How Rahm defeated Homa in a thriller at the Riviera?
Homa nearly nailed his approach shot from the second fairway after having to pitch out from behind a tree, but Rahm nearly hit a chip-in eagle from off the first green and tapped in to tie the shot.
Rahm lost two shots at the third hole when he ran off the back of the green and made a poor chip, which led to a two-putt bogey. Homa then moved to within one of the lead by putting a 10-foot birdie into the hole.

During the following three holes, the two players traded pars. Rahm missed a birdie opportunity from inside 10 feet on the sixth hole, but the Spanish converted from five feet on the next hole to tie Homa’s birdie.
At the eighth hole, where Rahm’s excellent approach set him a kick-in eagle to maintain his overnight lead, Homa was unable to get up and down from the back of the green. The American answered by making a 15-footer at the following hole to reach the turn two behind.
Homa two-putted from 80 feet for a birdie and a share of the lead as Rahm messed up the driveable par-four 10th hole by blading a chip into the sand after a poor chip from the trees and an errant drive.
Homa missed a six-foot birdie opportunity at the par-five 11th but briefly took the lead when Rahm made a three-putt bogey at the next. Nevertheless, Homa later joined his playing partner at 15 under after Rahm blasted his tee ball into trees on his way to a bogey at the 13th.
Rahm moved ahead of Homa by two strokes with two holes remaining after sinking an incredible 45-foot birdie at the par-4 14th. He then followed that up with a crucial par-save at the next hole and hit his tee shot to within tap-in distance at the par-three 16th. Homa failed to make a birdie on the next five holes.
