Golf News: Nelly Korda has experienced a really difficult year.
She was identified as having a blood clot in her right arm in March. However, the 24-year-old returned to the top of the world last week after taking home her first LPGA event victory in a year.
Korda’s coach, Jamie Mulligan, described Korda’s agonising diagnosis in a Golfweek article on Tuesday.
We were hanging out at the rental home the following day while it poured during The Players Championship “explained Mulligan. “David Sunderland, Patrick’s (Cantlay’s) physiotherapist, was treating both the girls and Patrick. When David came upstairs and said, “Hey, there’s something the matter with Nelly,” I was working upstairs. And I ask, “What’s happening?” I can’t really put my finger on it, he says. When I called Nelly a short while later to check on her, she sounded distraught and said, “I’m not normally like this. “My hands are changing into strange colours.” Give me a minute, I said, and then I hung up. My longtime buddy and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan answered the phone when I dialled his number by saying, “Hey, I heard that Nelly was in town.” That is why I’m phoning you, I said. We have a difficulty. I need your assistance because I believe she may have a blood clot. As a result of his intervention, she was able to see a doctor right away, and they ultimately had to perform a procedure, but Jay was the catalyst for that and it was really, really cool that he did that.
At the CME Group Tour Championship’s pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, Korda disputed the claims.
She expressed her dissatisfaction with the report, saying, “I think that was blown out of proportion a good bit.”
Korda continued: “Yes, it was absolutely not that horrible, but I keep my medical background and problems very quiet. Therefore, in a sense, I do believe the article is simply exaggerated.”
Korda is hoping to end the season on a high note by winning back-to-back matches at the LPGA’s season finale now that she has been healthy for several months.
