Golf News: Greg Norman maintains he will continue to lead LIV for a “long, long time” and claims he is not in the least bit disturbed by criticism from PGA Tour golfers Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
Norman declared on Saturday that he doesn’t pay heed to anything Woods and McIlroy say as the bitter dispute between the two tours intensifies.
Woods expressed the same opinion that McIlroy did last month when he declared Norman “needs to go” earlier this week.
“McIlroy and Woods are completely unimportant to me, right?” The golfer today quoted Norman. “For whatever reason, they have their own agenda. Whatever they want to say is being spoken. I am not affected by it in any way. I’ll be working with LIV for a very, very long time.”
Due to the better financial rewards offered by the new Saudi-sponsored tour, numerous PGA golfers have left the league.
Golfers who follow the PGA Tour have grown weary of the LIV’s management style.
There is also the issue of both parties bringing legal action against one another. Woods asserted that Norman’s removal as a leader is necessary for the two tours to come to an agreement.
At the Hero World Challenge, where he serves as the event’s host, Woods stated on Tuesday, “I see that there’s a chance out there if both organisations put a stop to their litigation.” There is no willingness to talk if you have a lawsuit brought against you, therefore they need to put a stop to it whether they do it or not.
“So perhaps there is something to be had if they both stay, take a break, and then get together to work things out. But I believe Greg needs to leave first, and then certainly the legal action against us and our countersuit against them would need to be put on hold as well. Consequently, we may all speak freely after that.”
McIlroy made similar comments at the DP World Tour Championship last month as did Woods.
So, according to McIlroy, “there are a couple of things that need to happen.” So there are currently two cases ongoing: one is between the PGA Tour and LIV, and the other will involve the DP World Tour in February. If those two things continue, nothing will happen, especially since you have limited options.
“Then, I believe that whatever happens with those two issues, there are a couple of things that I would want to see happen on the LIV side. I believe Greg needs to leave. He simply needs to leave the stage, in my opinion. Although he has left his mark, I believe that this is the appropriate time to sort of say, “Look, you’ve got this thing off the ground, but no one is going to talk unless there’s an adult in the room who can truly try to mend fences.”
