Leaked Anti-LIV: Tiger Woods claims he never received the scripted words, allegedly produced by the PGA Tour and now the subject of a federal lawsuit.
According to many news sites, the statements are among 357 pages of emails and other papers in an antitrust complaint filed against the PGA Tour in the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Woods’ remarks were apparently scheduled for him to present to players at a conference at the Travellers Championship in June 2022.
The LIV Golf circuit had just finished its debut tournament at the time, and Woods was among those seeking to help the PGA Tour recover from player defections.
Last August, he attended a player’s conference in Wilmington, Delaware, to discuss the PGA Tour’s response to LIV.
According to Golf Digest, which obtained the materials, among the talking points prepared for Woods were his statements that PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan was “the right guy for this war” and that tour players should condemn Saudi-funded LIV Golf.
“Do what I did and urge the Saudis to go on their own. And mean it,” the remarks read.
Woods is said to have rejected hundreds of millions of dollars to join LIV.
On Twitter late Sunday night, Woods said he didn’t attend the Travellers Championship last year and never saw almost two full pages of talking points supposedly prepared for him.
“In response to the talking points memo released this weekend, Woods commented, “I had never seen this document until today, and I did not attend the 2022 Travellers players meeting for which it was prepared.”
Woods’ 35-word Twitter tweet is his first public statement since the planned partnership between the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
According to GolfChannel.com, among the messages made for Woods was one about his teenage son, Charlie.
