Houston Open: The Cadence Bank Houston Open’s first round was stopped due to darkness with Tony Finau and Alex Noren sharing the early lead in a four-way tie.
At Memorial Park Golf Course, Finau shot a first-round 65, tying Noren, Aaron Wise, and Tyson Alexander on five under. He then birdied five of his next eight holes.
Play was stopped at 5:36 p.m. CT (11.36 p.m. GMT) owing to waning light, leaving Alexander just one hole to finish the day without a bogey. Alexander is one of 13 players who will return on Friday to finish their opening rounds.
Finau, who started on the back nine, was level-par after 10 holes until he took advantage of the par-five after making a 60-foot birdie at the second par-three.
The four-time PGA Tour champion made back-to-back birdies starting at the fifth hole, and his penultimate hole, the par-three ninth, where he made a 35-foot birdie to finish with a second-nine 30 that tied him for the lead.

Finau stated, “I knew the golf course, it’s a hard golf course to play. “It’s difficult to hit the greens after driving it into the fairway, so your work is far from done. I was patient with myself since I knew it would be difficult to get up and down if I missed the green.”
While Noren blended seven birdies with two bogeys on the first day, Wise recorded five birdies in his flawless start, including four straight from the third.
According to Wise, “I’ve just been in a weird place with my game where I’m obviously playing well enough to shoot nice scores, but there are just a couple shots a round that is irritating me.” “Today’s card had no bogeys, but it didn’t feel stress-free.”
Following opening-round 66s, David Lipsky, Wyndham Clark, Max McGreevy, Keith Mitchell, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith are all one off the lead. Zack Fischer and Ben Taylor of England are also at four under par with one and two holes left, respectively.
Scottie Scheffler, who can become world No. 1 with a victory, started the round with a level-par 70. Justin Rose and Martin Laird are two behind of the early leader.
