PGA Tour Championship: Jason Day, who ended a five-year winless streak with victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson, had the greatest possible lead-up to the PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
The Australian, who had previously won the PGA Championship in 2015, ended the week in McKinney, Texas, with an incredible nine-under 62 to win his first PGA Tour championship in five years.
Day finished the competition with a score of 23 under par, one stroke better than Austin Eckroat and Si Woo Kim, who tied for second. On the final day, CT Pan also shot 62 to finish alone in fourth place at 21 under.
The Dallas area’s hometown favourite and No. 2 in the world Scottie Scheffler shot a bogey-free 65 to tie for fifth place at 20 under with Tyrrell Hatton of England and Zecheng Dou of China.
Day shot to the top of the scoreboard with a chip-in for a birdie at the TPC Craig Ranch course’s 12th hole, and he completed the victory with a tap-in for his ninth birdie in a day without a blemish.

The former No. 1 has won 13 times on the PGA Tour, but this is his first triumph since taking home the Wells Fargo Championship in 2018. Day’s debut was in 2010 at the Byron Nelson.
A tough day that almost made me give up golf
Day said following his triumph that, after suffering through illness, injuries, and the agony of witnessing his mother’s five-year struggle with cancer come to an end last year, he had thought about quitting golf a couple of years prior.
“It was very emotional to go through and experience what she was going through, and then I had injuries on top of all of that going on in my life,” he added. “I’ll be honest; I was on the verge of giving up. Despite the fact that I kept it a secret from my wife, I was comfortable with it since it was a very stressful time in my life.”
After declaring victory on what was Mother’s Day in the US and rejoicing with his wife Ellie, who is now expecting their fifth child, the 35-year-old suddenly broke down in tears.
