PGA Championship: Pro Club As one of the PGA Championship’s standout players, Michael Block made the cut to team up with Rory McIlroy on the last day and then produced an incredible hole-in-one on the 15th. The 46-year-old American’s tie for 15th place secured him a berth in the PGA field for the following year.
Are you kidding me?
Michael Block, 46, continued an incredible week at Oak Hill with an incredible hole-in-one on the 15th hole of his final round. Not only was that his priceless reaction when he learned he would be playing alongside Rory McIlroy in the PGA Championship final round, but those exact same three words were undoubtedly being said all over the world at the time.
Block, who had missed the cut in each of his previous six major tournament appearances, not only made the weekend this time, but he also took centre stage, perhaps overshadowing Brooks Koepka, the eventual champion.
Block shot a 71 on the final day after shooting three consecutive rounds of 70, good for a one-over-par tournament score and a tie for the fifteenth place, earning him a position in the PGA field for the next year and a cool £288,333.
The fan favourite had a taste for the big event, as was the case during the whole week, and it required a clutch putt for par from eight feet on the 18th to secure his return in 2024.
However, Block admitted to Sky Sports that he had “no idea” how significant that putt was.
“I never looked at the leaderboard for the entire day,” he said. “If I had, I doubt I would have survived.
“I had no idea at all. I only wanted to perform for the immediate audience.
“I’m going to be the happiest guy in the world when I go home. The past week has been excellent.”
