Women’s World Golf Rankings: On Monday, Lydia Ko surpassed Nelly Korda as the top player in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings by moving up one spot.
Ko, who recorded three LPGA Tour titles and nine further top-five finishes in 2022, has now occupied the top position three times.
From February 2 to June 14, 2015, and from October 2015 to June 2017, Ko also held the No. 1 spot. She is currently on her 105th week overall as the top-ranked player in the world.
Ko stated, “I’m quite delighted to be world No. 1 again.” To be completely honest, I didn’t know if I would ever return to this place.
When the New Zealander reached the top rank seven years ago, she was only 17 years old, making her the youngest player, male or female, to do so.
She now holds the fifth-best record for the majority of weeks spent at the top of the rankings, just one week behind Inbee Park’s 106 and four behind Yani Tseng’s 109.
In the history of the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Lorena Ochoa held the top spot for 158 weeks, followed by Jin Young Ko with 152.
One of Ko’s accomplishments this year was winning the CME Group Tour Championship, which came with a $2 million first-place award, the greatest first-place reward in women’s golf history. She also won the BMW Ladies Championship and the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio.
The 25-year-old, who has amassed 19 LPGA Tour victories, won the Race to the CME Globe title, repeated as Rolex Player of the Year winner, and won the Vare Trophy, which is given to the golfer with the lowest scoring average during the season, for the second time in a row.
With 25 points toward the necessary total at the end of the year, Ko is just two points away from being inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame as well.
